Student Empowerment

When creating an IEP, the best practice is for students to be involved. Current documents focus on the negative, which can be discouraging for students. KiEP will support students in creating an IEP that reflects their style and their needs using positive, asset-based language and encouraging a growth mindset.

Student Support

KiEP = less hours doing paperwork = more hours directly supporting students in the classroom.

Open Communication

With KiEP, the flow of the IEP meeting will be smoother as it reduces extraneous paperwork and is presented in a more logical and visual manner. Unlike the current system, KiEP will be accessible by students, parents, and teachers, making it a true “living” document.

Accurate Data

KiEP will allow for increased ability to keep and track data in order to make informed decisions about student instruction to improve outcomes,  and will provide a back-end that confidentially delivers mandated compliance information.

Teacher Retention

Upon exit interviews, special education teachers uniformly cite untenable paper work as one of the top three reasons they choose to leave their position. Most IEPs take between two to three hours to complete. The ease and efficiency of KiEP will lighten the load and take the burden off of teachers.

Compliance

Special education teachers are usually not lawyers, are tight on time, and often receive limited training on paperwork. Small paperwork mistakes can be very costly to school districts. (We don’t have an exact dollar amount, but definitely in the millions of dollars.) KiEP will be a resource to teachers with roll over trainings and imbedded district-specific video support.
